Title page "Summers' journal". - Text of copybooks containing notes and stories about visits to the Native Americans of Puget Sound and Western Oregon between the years 1871-81, plus drawings of 160 of his artifacts from the Pacific Northwest. Note from the text, "In 1897, as death approached, his only option for avoiding dispersal was the offer of an English priest to convey the collection to the British Museum.
